If you live in Larchmont and you're searching for Indian food nearby, you don't have to go far. Rani Mahal sits at 327 Mamaroneck Ave, in the village just north of Larchmont — a short drive up Mamaroneck Ave from downtown, not a trip out of the neighborhood.
Why Rani Mahal
We've been on Mamaroneck Ave since 2006, serving authentic Indian cooking built on traditional family recipes. Everything tandoori comes out of a real clay oven, not a broiler standing in for one; our curries are simmered for hours rather than minutes; and our breads are made to order, so what reaches your table was cooked after you ordered it, not reheated. The dining room takes its arches and geometric line work from Mughal palace architecture — worth the trip in on its own if you haven't seen it.
What to order
A few starting points if you're new to us:
- Chicken Makhni (butter chicken) — tandoori chicken in a rich butter-tomato gravy. The easiest, most reliable order if you're bringing someone who hasn't had Indian food before.
- Tandoori chicken — our clay-oven bestseller, char and smoke from actual live fire.
- Biryani — chicken, lamb, or shrimp, all spice-adjustable if you or your table run mild.
- Dal Maharani Makhni — black lentils, slow cooked overnight and finished with butter and cream. Deeply comforting, and vegetarian.
Most of our curries run on an adjustable spice system — mild, medium, or spicy, your call at the table — with a small handful (Korma-style dishes, Vindaloo, Phaal) fixed at one end or the other by design. If spice level is a concern for your group, just ask; we'll walk you through what's adjustable and what isn't.
Getting here from Larchmont
Rani Mahal is a straightforward few minutes' drive from downtown Larchmont up Mamaroneck Ave — no highway, no detour. We're set up for dine-in, pickup, delivery, and catering, plus a Sunday buffet if you'd rather sample a full spread than order à la carte. All meat we serve is 100% halal.
Whether you're planning a family dinner, ordering takeout on a weeknight, or booking a table for a group, we're glad to have Larchmont as neighbors — come see us on Mamaroneck Ave.
